About

Alexandre Manhães Savio

I’m Alexandre Manhães Savio, a freelance Software, Cloud and AI engineer. I help R&D-heavy teams ship reliable systems — the kind of work where the problem isn’t yet well defined, the data is messy, and the product has to survive contact with real users.

Background

I spent more than eight years in academia working on brain image processing and machine learning for medical analysis. After a few post-docs and a startup, I made the jump out of research and into industry — first through consultancies, working with large European companies on robotics, data analytics and engineering, and cloud solutions. Today I work independently as a freelancer.

I’m comfortable anywhere on the stack a data-intensive product needs: designing cloud architectures, building ingestion and transformation pipelines, wiring up ML systems, and writing the production code that ties them together end-to-end.

How I work

  • Small engagements, senior judgment. I work best embedded in a small team where I can own a problem end-to-end rather than sit in a staffing pool.
  • First principles, not frameworks. My writing reflects how I think about projects: strip the hype, find the irreducible constraints, then pick tools proportional to the actual problem.
  • Long-form partnerships. Most of my engagements run for months, not days. I’m not the right fit for two-week staff augmentation.

Community

  • Board member of the EuroPython Society for 4 years.
  • Member of ACPySS (Asociación Cultural Pythonista de San Sebastián).
